Different prototyping methods and how i use them

There are lots of different ways of creating and using prototypes. Over the years i’ve used various different techniques and choosing the right one is often based on the two things; the audience who’s seeing it and the outcome i’m aiming for.

Talk: Using design systems in government

In September 2019, i joined GDS and other designers across government at the Creative Bureaucracy Festival in Berlin. Here i gave a talk about using design systems, and how i believe their restriction encourages freedom. The talk is framed within the light hearted context of my bumpy transition from working in the creative industry to joining the public sector.

The Crown Commercial Service style guide

Having a GOV.UK exemption can be a really useful thing for an organisation to have. However, without the proper internal guidance and governance an exemption can lead to large inconsistencies not only in output, but in the actual creation of services too. The CCS Style Guide was an initiative to draw together the advice and guidance from three seperate departments within the organisation, as well as advice from GOV.UK Service Manual into a central, authoritative place.
